Bruxism and Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD, TMJ)
Having an issue with teeth grinding or clenching? A mouthguard will help protect your teeth.
If you’re a teeth grinder, you’re likely already familiar with bruxism, but for those who aren’t, bruxism is a condition where a person grinds, clenches, or gnashes their teeth, which can lead to tooth sensitivity, worn teeth, damaged teeth, and sore jaws.
50% of people unconsciously grind their teeth; in fact, they may not even know they do it without being made aware of it from a partner, friend, or their dentist. It can be done during the night when the person is asleep or simply sitting at their desk while at work.
If a person hears from a partner or friend that they have teeth grinding issues, they can simply visit their local dentist to get a mouthguard to help protect their teeth. However, with regular dental cleaning exams, we will be able to detect if you have a bruxism issue and may suggest using a mouthguard.
It’s important to note that catching bruxism early on, helps save lots of money down the road against costly tooth repair - tooth repair that could be prevented with the low cost of a mouth guard.
